As announced earlier, Randy "Max" Wendel, KM0D was appointed Asst. SEC-Planning and is responsible for updating the Statewide ARES EMCOM Plan. The plan was last updated in 2003.

Randy and I both agree that the plan requires extensive revision and reorganization. One of the goals of the revision/reorganization is to help make the plan more of a "how-to" and "what-to-do" manual that is organized by job functions throughout the organization.

We also hope that the plan helps tie together many disparate county plans and introduce commonality between them The primary benefit of this move would be to encourage the development of ARES Mutual Aid Teams (ARESMAT) that can reinforce each others emergency communications response needs.

Input is needed from all corners of the MN-ARES organization.

  • If you have ideas, suggestions, concerns, etc., please contact Max with your thoughts.
  • If you have an existing county plan, please share it with Max so we have an idea of what is already in place throughout the state.
  • If you want to help Max with the project, please contact him and volunteer your services. Persons with technical writing and plan writing experience are needed to help complete this enormous undertaking.

Here is the initial time line for this project:

  • 2/15/06 - Seek comments from ARES members and gather examples of plans from other states.
  • 3/31/06 - Deadline for initial comments and fact finding
  • 5/1/06 - Publish Outline for new plan; Seek comments from membership.
  • 6/1/06 - Begin writing plan.

The final due date for the plan will be announced after the outline has been completed and we know what writing resources we have available to complete the project.

Be sure to contact Randy and volunteer your energies!
